Course Objective

The objectives of this course are to enable students to understand the basics of database management systems, to apply this basic konwledge on current relational dbms's.

Course Content

Introduction to DBMSs, Relational Databases, Relational Algebra, SQL, Entity Relationship Model. Theory of Database Design, Physical Database Design, Example DBMS. (Offered to non-5710 students only).

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students are expected to have basic and general information on database management systems, to be able to create a database and develope queries on top of it. In addition, they will know the basics of the index structures and they will be able to evaluate and select the most appropriate index structures for the application.
